Photoshop Homework How to Add Shadow

I learned how to add shadows on photoshop, I looked at a youtube video on it this is the video i watched: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vcqPuTHVm8&safe=active  

1. First you make sure that your image that you wish to add ad a shadow too is cut out on a transparent layer. Then you leave enough space for the shadow to go.

2. Next you open up a new layer, then change it to the colour white and drag the layer under the image layer. 

3. Then you set the foreground colour to black.

4. Then Look to see if the shadow layer is active and press "ctrl" and "t" at the same time. You will see a bounding box with 8 little squares; see where the light is hitting your image and move around the arrows to the right places. Warp the bounding box by pressing "ctrl" and clicking on the squares. Move the shadow to fit nicely with the image. When you're done, press enter or press apply.

5. Activate the shadow layer and adjust the opacity so the shadow is slightly lighter than the object/person.

6. Next you activate the copy of the shadow layer set the opacity of this one low so you will see a gradient going from black to grey and lighter.

7. Resize the copied layer so it is just bigger than the original, this gives the shadow a nice fade on the edge.

Examining and explaining the 3 statements.

In many rap videos women have no identity except as sexual playthings and "eye candy"

These images do provide pleasures to some viewers. But the concern is that men may internalise the notion that women are nothing more than sexual objects waiting to be used.

These sorts of images are not unique to hip hop. Objectified female bodies are everywhere. They appear throughout our culture in films, advertisements, television programmes etc. However, within music videos, this is virtually the ONLY vision of women available.

The first statement is fairly true. it suggests that when the video girls are in music videos the are no one apart from the artists toys, they are purely to make the artist look good and they are not important for anything else. it gives off the impression that these video girls are being used and do not get respected. like they have been given a label and nobody looks beyond that.

The second statement says how the video girls provide pleasure for some viewers, it suggests that they are a liability and that the men are just watching the videos to get pleasure out of the girls, not that they like the song or the artist just simply for the girls in bikinis. Although some video girls may like getting well known, you cant exactly say that its for the right reasons! 

With the third statement it is quite hard to get out of it what it means, from what i can gather i think it is saying that music videos reveal more about girls then you see on T.V. Where it says "these sorts of images are not unique to hip hop" i think that is trying to get across that the naked girls in music videos is gradually finding its way into more and more genres.\

PINK my presentation evaluation

P!NK

I would say my presentation on P!NK is good because it shows the valid information and cuts out all the rubbish, i would say its written in good english and it shows good length. The background of the powerpoint is relative because its pink just like the girl band. We didn't include pictures because rather than making it look nice we focused on putting the right information in but i think that if we included one or two pictures it would have helped our grades .In my presentation i include basic understanding and i explain about the video, i think i could of done better by:

-WWW
-good background colour
-included good information
-good grammar and punctuation.

-EBI
-more pictures
-wrote more
-spent more time on looks.

Hip hop presents a very rigid and narrow version of manhood - one that suggests that to be a "real man" you must be strong and tough, you must have a lot of women and money, you must always be in control, and you must always dominate women and other men.

If you do not live up to these ideals, you will be ridiculed for not being man enough. You will be called names like "soft, weak and wimp".

This need to conform to the narrow definition of manhood in hip hop is a trap for men, boxing them int
o a restricted, unhealthy style of manhood and masculinity

With the first statement, i disagree, there are men that do not have them qualities but are still classed as 'real men' for example justin bieber is not strong and tough but he has lots of money and women. Also you could be poor ugly and not strong and tough but you could fight for the country and still get called a fake man?

With the second one i sadly agree, people tend to get more picked on if there not tough or don't get girls, because bullies tend to pick on the easier targets. Also its easier to pick on them because if there poor or don't get girls thats more ammunition to take the mic out of them.

I disagree with the third statement because not all men like hip hop but yet they could still be tough and get girls.

my school programme logo.

I am happy with my logo because i think it represents an average school well, it also shows the view of an average school student very well on the logo, my logo has a bored student sitting crossed legged and looking bored, with a large pencil above her that writes 'school time'. Also there is a stack of books at the edge of the pencil so that it looks like the student is being blocked in by the amount of homework she has, My background i have chosen is lined paper because it represents a school really well. I think it shows good imagination and it also shows that school is hard. i think i could have done better by making it more like a logo rather than a picture, added more colour, edited it to make it more personal. 

Album covers update

This album cover is good because it has 4 or 5 pictures on at once. The CD in the top right suggests its a music CD. There are 4 people walking across a road in the middle which suggests that they are the bang that sing the songs in the album.

This album cover is quite dark and it does not give us much information, it suggests that its quite mysterious and out of the ordinary. The dark colours and the man suggests its maybe a sad movie or song. his face and eyes direction could also state that he is looking up at something?

This cover has a picture of refraction and colour spectrum which maybe suggests its about science or the author likes science. Also the white line being refracted into many colours suggest it turns from quite sad to happy or involves a big twist in the song or story.

This album cover is quite strange because it is just plain squared paper, it may have something to do with maths as we use this paper in maths, or it could be a movie about maths. There is no text which could suggest that its a mystery or maybe a detective story.

This album cover is full of colour and letters, this gives off the impression that its quite exciting and if its a cd quite loud and has rap in. maybe about a graffiti artist or just a normal artist.

This has a picture of a cross on which suggests that someone has died or that the writer is quite religious, its also quite dark which represents mystery and sadness. The fact that there is not much colour suggests that maybe he is afraid of colour.

This cover is quite hard to connotate on as all it is is a baby that looks either dead or unborn, maybe its a sign that the movie is going to be big but at the time its not recognised. or maybe the baby could represent dying before they've lived. The grim colours give off the idea that the story is quite gory.

This cover is colourful which suggests that its quite an exciting movie or a loud, happy song. also the stripes may suggest that there are a lot of twists and changes. The text is quite small and is surrounded with black which could give us the idea that there is a story line that is un-noticable.

This cover shows an eg being cracked, this ma suggest that a person has gone mad and cracked, it also could suggest its a funny film and everyones cracking up. It looks like a film that is being played in slo mo, so it could be an action film.

The prodgidy cover looks quite scary and spooky and makes you want to watch it. the scary face suggests its a horror but the face is stone so therefore it must be a quite unrealistic story. The face is gasping for air which could suggest that its a long dragged out death as well as a long dragged out storyline, the title is curved which could suggest there is a turn around at some point in the story.
